Child Development & Growth

Every child grows at their own pace — let's make sure yours is on track

Whether you have a specific concern or just want peace of mind, Dr. K. Sushma offers thorough, unhurried assessments of your child's growth, development, speech, movement and behavior.

A gentle starting point

Children develop at different rates, and a single "late" milestone rarely means anything serious on its own. An assessment isn't a test your child can fail — it's simply a clear, structured way to understand where your child is right now, and to catch anything worth a closer look while it's easiest to address.

Assessments & evaluations

Grouped by what you're noticing — find where your concern fits, or book a general assessment if you're unsure.

Growth Tracking

Monitoring your child's physical growth against expected patterns over time.

Developmental Screening

A general check of your child's overall developmental progress.

Specific Skill Areas

Focused evaluation of speech, movement, or behavior when something stands out.

Nutritional Assessment

Understanding whether nutrition is supporting your child's growth as it should.

A general guide

What to expect, roughly, by age

Every child is different — this is a general guide, not a checklist to measure your child against exactly.

By 1 Year
  • Responds to their name
  • Babbles and imitates sounds
  • Sits without support
  • May begin pulling up to stand
By 2 Years
  • Says several single words
  • Walks steadily
  • Points to show interest
  • Follows simple instructions
By 3 Years
  • Speaks in short sentences
  • Runs and climbs
  • Plays alongside other children
  • Follows two-step instructions
By 5 Years
  • Speaks clearly in full sentences
  • Hops, skips, and balances
  • Engages in cooperative play
  • Follows multi-step instructions

Ranges vary — if you're unsure whether your child is on track, an assessment is always a reasonable next step.

Trust your instinct

When it may be worth an evaluation

Your child seems noticeably behind peers of the same age

Limited or unclear speech for their age

Growth that has slowed or plateaued unexpectedly

You simply feel something is "off" — that instinct is worth listening to

What to expect

How an assessment works

1

Your observations

We start by listening to what you've noticed — you know your child best.

2

Structured observation

Gentle, play-based observation of speech, movement and behavior.

3

Clear findings

An honest picture of where your child is, in plain, reassuring language.

4

Practical next steps

Simple guidance, monitoring, or referral — whatever genuinely helps.

Common questions

Questions parents often have

My child isn't talking as much as other kids their age — is that a problem?
Not necessarily — speech development varies widely between children. A speech delay evaluation gives a clear picture and, if needed, early guidance, which is genuinely helpful either way.
Will a "delay evaluation" label my child?
An assessment is simply information-gathering, not a label. It exists to understand where your child is right now and support them accordingly — nothing more.
Is it better to wait and see, or get an evaluation now?
If something is genuinely concerning you, an earlier evaluation is generally more useful than waiting — it either reassures you quickly, or means any needed support starts sooner.
What should I bring to a growth or development assessment?
Any growth records or vaccination history you have, and a few notes on specific things you've noticed — dates and examples are more useful than general impressions.
