Child Health Consultation

A proactive health review, so small things are caught early and big questions are answered

Your child doesn't have to be unwell to see a pediatrician. A child health consultation looks at the whole picture, from growth and development to nutrition, sleep and vaccinations, while everything is going well.

Most visits end with "everything looks right on track"

That's the point. A regular health review gives you a trusted record of how your child is growing, lets small concerns be raised early, and means a doctor who knows your child is already familiar when they do fall ill.

What we look at

Six areas of a child health review

Each visit is adapted to your child's age, so not every area carries equal weight every time.

Growth monitoring

Height, weight and head size, plotted over time, because the trend matters more than any single number.

Development & milestones

Movement, speech, play and social skills, checked against what's expected for your child's age.

Nutrition & feeding

What your child eats, picky-eating worries, and age-appropriate guidance for healthy habits.

Immunization

Checking the vaccination record, planning what's due next, and answering your questions about it.

Sleep & daily routine

Sleep patterns, screen time, activity and the everyday rhythms that shape a child's health.

Behavior & wellbeing

Mood, attention, confidence and school adjustment, because emotional health is part of child health.

How often

A rhythm of check-ups that follows your child's growth

Younger children are seen more often because they change faster. Dr. Sushma will suggest a schedule that fits your child.

First weeks

Newborn

Feeding, weight gain, jaundice and settling in as a family.

First year

Infancy

The most frequent visits: vaccinations, growth and first milestones.

1–3 years

Toddler

Walking, talking, appetite changes and early behavior.

School years

Childhood

School readiness, growth, sleep, activity and learning concerns.

Teen years

Adolescence

Growth spurts, puberty, mood and general health.

What happens

What your child's review includes

1

A conversation about how things are going

Eating, sleeping, mood, school, and anything you've been wondering about. This is your chance to ask.

2

Measurements and growth charting

Your child is measured and the results are plotted against standard growth charts, alongside earlier visits.

3

A gentle head-to-toe check

A relaxed, child-paced physical examination, with time to settle first.

4

Development and vaccination review

Milestones are checked for age, and the immunization record is reviewed and updated.

5

Personalized guidance and a clear next step

Practical advice on nutrition, sleep and routines, plus when to come back and what to watch for in between.

Before your visit

What to bring

Helping the review give you the full picture

Vaccination card and any previous growth records

Even an older record helps show how your child has been growing.

A typical day of meals and sleep, in rough notes

What your child eats, and when they sleep and wake. Rough notes are fine.

Reports from school or other doctors, if relevant

Including any teacher feedback about learning or behavior.

Your questions, written down

Big or small, they all belong in the visit.

Common questions

Questions parents often ask

My child is healthy. Do we really need a visit?

Regular reviews are how growth and development are tracked over time, and how small concerns are caught early. They also give you a doctor who already knows your child when they do become unwell.

How is this different from a regular pediatric visit?

A regular pediatric consultation usually starts from a symptom or worry. A child health consultation starts from the child as a whole, covering growth, development, nutrition, sleep, and vaccinations, even when nothing is wrong.

Will my child need any tests or injections?

Most reviews involve measurements and a gentle examination only. Vaccinations are given when they're due, and tests are suggested only if there's a specific reason, always explained first.

What if you find something that needs follow-up?

You'll be told clearly what was noticed, what it may mean, and what the next step is. Concerns about development or the brain and nerves can be taken further through our Child Development and Pediatric Neurology services.
